Lucinda Williams at The Crescent Ballroom
Lucinda Williams’ Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone tour made its way to Phoenix on a very hot August night. For this trek, she’s utilizing Buick 6, a group that formed during her Little Honey sessions. At the start, Lucinda announced that the entire set list were requests (save 2) then launched into Bloody Fingers. But it was distracting to see her using a lyric book to reference every song & the 1st half was shaky & disjointed with the nadir being Drunken Angels where she couldn’t maintain any tempo. When all seemed lost, they finally cohered on Lake Charles, then Something Wicked, Essence & Changed The Locks. Joy and Honey Bee finally had the electricity the crowd expected. Her lengthy encore included the anthemic Should I Stay Or Should I Go, The Rising & Rockin’ In The Free World.
